Universal Code requirements

Posted on 10/12/2022 12:00:00 PM

Microsoft has introduced a new program, called the Business Central Universal Code Initiative, which replaced the Registered Solution Program (RSP) and the Certified for Microsoft Dynamics (CfMD) programs.

This initiative is aiming for better quality solutions that will be future proof by supporting Microsoft’s cloud-first strategy. It does this by requiring add-ons or anything developed for Business Central (including customer-developed code) to meet a minimum requirement to exist in the cloud. The term, “universal code” means that everyone must go to full extensions (no code customized in the base application), and code created must have the ability to work both on premises and in the cloud (hence, “universal”).

Following the announcement from Microsoft regarding Universal Code requirements, we would like to inform our Partners/Customers that, LS Central Customers, either new or transitioning to LS Central on BC onPrem Perpetual, do not need to pay the recurring customer license fee starting January 1, 2023 for licenses with LS Central modules.

Existing customers prior to October 3, 2022 are exempt from the Universal Code licensing requirement.

Please contact Licensing if you have further questions.
